Berpikir Perlu Perubahan

Kata Perubahan (Change) banyak sekali dipakai di bidang sosial, ekonomi, pendidikan dan politik. Barack Obama calon presiden Amerika Serikat juga menggunakan kata ini sebagai kredo.

"When people speak of problem, they tend to look for cause, but when they look for creativity and innovation, they should be searching for change, attitude and commitment."

Apakah janji-janji perubahan tersebut dalam implementasinya mudah dan selalu mencapai sasarannya? Bisa ya dan tidak, dan semuanya tergantung dari strategi implementasinya dan kalau lebih dalam diteliti sangat tergantung dari perubahan sikap, sementara kalau ditarik mundur lagi sangat tergantung dari perubahan cara berpikir dan komitmennya.

Ketika dua pemenang hadiah Nobel dalam bidang fisika diminta untuk memperkirakan area riset apa yang akan memenangkan hadiah Nobel berikut dalam tahun 2000, tanpa saling konsultasi dan tanpa ragu-ragu, mereka menyatakan "Brain Research". Otak manusia menurut mereka merupakan tantangan intelektual pokok pada seperempat akhir abad ke 20 ini. Ternyata perkiraan tadi memang benar karena Roger Sperry dan kawan-kawan pada tahun 1982 memperoleh Nobel dalam bidang kedokteran berkat penelitian mereka pada "Split Brain" otak manusia. Penemuan tersebut telah mengubah kehidupan fundamental manusia.

Sperry menjabarkan, kedua belahan otak (hemisfer) manusia mempunyai fungsi yang berbeda bahkan bertentangan. Sebaliknya, belahan otak kanan yang berfungsi secara nonverbal, pragmatik dan unggul dalam informasi visual, spasial, perseptual dan intuitif diabaikan dalam praktik kehidupan sehari-hari. Otak kanan seringkali dikaitkan dengan wawasan inovasi, produktif, kreativitas dan entrepreneurship.

Namun demikian individu yang prima otaknya adalah mereka yang menggunakan whole brain thinking dalam proses berpikirnya. Ini dimungkinkan karena individu tersebut mempunyai sifat mekanisme kerja otak yang fleksibel. Mempunyai potensi untuk mengintegrasikan kedua hemisfer tersebut secara baik dengan mengadakan peralihan atau pergeseran (shifting) dari satu pola pikir ke pola pikir yang lain, secara timbal balik, menurut kebutuhan sesuai kondisi dan situasi.

Sifat ini yang kini sedang "trend", disebut kemampuan berubah dalam berpikir. Ada pepatah yang menyatakan bahwa bukan kernampuan inteligensi manusia yang diunggulkan, melainkan kemampuan untuk mampu berubah. Bukankah masyarakat dan dunia senantiasa berubah? Mampukah kita mengikuti perubahan itu dalam berpikir? Pada dasarnya setiap orang mempunyai kecenderungan (preference) untuk lebih dominan pada salah satu belahan (hemisfer) dengan pola pikir tertentu. Tidak menjadi masalah apakah pilihan tadi pola pikir kiri atau kanan, tetapi tetap saja yang penting, individu bisa melakukan perubahan sewaktu-waktu.

Korpus kalosum yang merupakan 'jembatan emas' (golden bridge) penghubung antara kedua hemisfer itu memiliki peran yang amat penting. Malahan dikatakan bahwa kecerdasan dan kecerdikan orang terletak pada kemampuan korpus kalosum.

Dewasa ini pendidikan dan lingkungan lebih memberikan bobot kepada penggunaan otak kiri, yang mengakibatkan lingkungan yang tidak kondusif terhadap kreativitas yang ujungnya kurang membuahkan suatu inovasi.

Pertanyaan selanjutnya, bagaimana memanfaatkan kedua belahan otak tersebut sehingga korpus kalosum sebagai golden bridge dapat berfungsi optimal serta menghasilkan kreativitas yang membuahkan suatu inovasi?

Akhir-akhir ini telah terjadi kasus-kasus seperti Blue energy dan beras supertoy. Bukankah semuanya merupakan suatu inovasi? Terjadi suatu polemik, penemuan-penemuan yang merupakan hasil dari inovasi tetapi hanya merupakan kreativitas untuk mencari keuntungan sendiri dan merugikan orang lain.

Bahkan si penemu telah datang, diterima dan diumumkan oleh para pejabat sebagai suatu terobosan tetapi dalam kenyataan kurang dapat dipertanggungjawabkan akan hasilnya dan bisa dipersepsikan si penemu harus diadili karena dianggap penemuan tersebut adalah suatu penipuan.

Kenapa semuanya bisa terjadi? Hubungan antara alternif dan logika bisa terlihat pada box disamping. Diharapkan ide (kreativitas) mampu menjadi suatu inovasi (sesuatu yang baru dan mempunyai nilai tambah). Katakan muncul suatu ide dalam mencari produk baru, dan diharapkan menjadi suatu inovasi dalam ilustrasi yang kami sertakan dalam tulisan ini.

Pada area divergent, kreativitas yang ada memiliki beberapa kemungkinan:

Kreativitas yang mungkin bisa menghasilkan inovasi
Kreativitas yang menyesatkan (bisa dipakai untuk penipuan)
Kreativitas yang langsung dianggap sebagai solusi.

Pada tahapan ini, otak kanan berfungsi penting untuk menggali ide dan kreativitas sebanyak-banyaknya. Kreativitas tersebut sebaiknya tidak langsung dianggap sebagai solusi dari suatu permasalahan. Kreativitas tersebut sebaiknya ditampung dan kernudian masuk tahap konvergensi.

Pada tahap convergent otak kiri berperan untuk menilai kreativitas tersebut dengan menggunakan logika dan melakukan tes apakah kreativitas tersebut dapat menjadi suatu inovasi. Selanjutnya dilakukan perbaikan demi perbaikan agar inovasi tersebut dapat menjadi solusi dari permasalahan yang ada. Pada tahap ini diperlukan keseimbangan otak kanan dan otak kiri dan korpus kalosum memegang peran atau dengan kata lain imajinasi dan logika disatukan untuk menjadikan suatu produk, jasa, sistem, yang baru dan memiliki nilai tambah.

Teknik sederhana ini bersifat universal dan proses ini akan membantu individu, korporasi, pemerintah agar mampu berpikir secara kreatif tanpa menghilangkan nilai logika. Whole brain thinking sangat dibutuhkan oleh negara kita yang miskin akan kreativitas dan inovasi. Semoga kasus blue energi dan beras supertoy tidak terjadi lagi. Perubahan cara berpikir dalam whole brain thinking dan teknik berpikir bukan hal yang mudah, namun sangat diperlukan dan bisa dipelajari dan dilatih.

Tuhan telah memberikan anugerah kepada setiap individu, otak untuk dimanfaatkan secara benar, produktif dan positif. Di bulan Ramadhan ini marilah kita merenung, maukah dan sadarkah kita memanfaatkan anugerah tersebut untuk berubah menjadi individu yang tidak saja cerdas, juga cerdik demi kesejahteraan Bangsa?
